January 20, Romania was one step closer to becoming member number 19 of the European Space Agency. During the signing ceremony attended by the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Director General of ESA and other personalities, like the president of the space agency the country and astronaut Dumitru Dorin Prunariu. Romania participated very actively in the Soviet space program in the 70 and 80. In 1992, he signed a cooperation agreement with ESA and has participated in several scientific missions of the agency as Cluster, Herschel, Planck, SOHO and Gaia.
